Our Preschool Graduate!
Amazing how five years can feel both like a lifetime and just a heartbeat. Jakob graduated from preschool last night in a lovely, short ceremony, and I managed not to spill too many tears. His teachers were also emotional, because they've had four of the five graduates for over two years now. Jakob looked so proud as they called his name, and he was very excited to receive his certificate, bubbles, and necklace from his teachers, as well as his flowers from us. (And, later that evening, his books about kindergarten from Grandma and Grandpa Janelle!) There was a potluck dinner afterwards, then the kids headed to the playground for a bit. After that, because it was such a perfect evening, we took the kids over to the Jericho Country Store for some creemies with best friend Celdric and his family.
We've been so lucky to have had Jakob in this program, and his teachers are truly outstanding. When he first started, every drop off was difficult, even the good ones (numerous rounds of hugs and kisses, needing to see us turn around and wave while he stood at the window, often in a teacher's arms.) Now he runs from the car into the classroom, and he has to be interrupted from playing with his friends if you want him to acknowledge your departure. When we picked him up at the end of the day, he would report that he had asked all day for his grown-ups. Now it's a rare occurrence that we hear he was missing us. He used to have a tough time adjusting to new experiences, and now his anxiety level is much, much lower. He's learned so much and has developed into such a sweet, outgoing kid, and we're so proud of him. We're so excited that Everleigh will be starting there on Monday (look out, JES!)
