Rest in Peace, Great Grandma

With heavy hearts, Dan and I broke the news to the kids on Friday evening that Great Grandma had passed away the night before.  Everleigh didn't really get it, but Jakob had a lot of very thoughtful questions.  He was sad and wanted to know if she was up in heaven.  He was visibly relieved when I told him that she was with Great Grandpa and Holden in heaven, and that they were watching him.

They don't know that this is the end of an era.  They can't understand how much she meant to me and to our whole family.  They're too young to appreciate how she could light up a room with her excited "Well!" when you came through the door or called her on the phone.  But they were always so excited to see her, and the services this weekend will be tough when they see people looking sad.  But they'll get to hear people share happy stores of her kindness and describe a long life truly well-lived.

They sent this picture to her a few days after she chose to put an end to life-saving medical interventions.  The sign speaks for all of us.  We love you and will miss you forever.  Rest in peace, Grandma, and thank you for everything!
